Rats may be infected with Covid-19, and the dogs that hunt on them might get the infection and spread it to humans. This has to be looked in carefully and ASAP. Rodents as the potential vector of Covid-19 have to be dealt with.
Furthermore, the Coronavirus Covid-19 Infection may be just a part of the complex Disease X-19 Infection, crudely mixed as the combined biological (and possibly chemical) weapon. One of the other parts may include the Hantaviruses infections, deliberately spread through rats.

The relative crudeness of this hypothetical "disease and pandemic as bioweapon" design may point, also hypothetically (and together with other observations) in the direction of the Organized Crime (TOC, Russian-Jewish Mafia).

Dogs are joining the fight against NYC's coronavirus rat problem

Michael_Novakhov shared this story from Ben Cost New York Post.

Mans best friend = rats worst enemy.
New York City has turned to an unlikely ally in the fight against the citys mounting rodent problem: pet dogs.
Unfortunately, the Big Apples resident rat population has become even more aggressive during the coronavirus lockdown due to the shortage of trash caused by shuttered restaurants. To combat the scourge, a group known as Ryders Alley Trencher-fed Society (R.A.T.S.), is enlisting concerned citizens and their beloved pooches to track down and kill the pesky pests.
We have a policy: Any time we get a call or an email or anything, we at least go check it out, Richard Reynolds, who founded R.A.T.S. almost 30 years ago, tells The Post. The group even does house calls.
But right now, NYC has an especially huge rat problem, R.A.T.S. volunteer James Hoffman tells Cheddar news service, adding that this enables them to do what they do best. Which is, according to the their Facebook page, recruiting Border Terriers, Norfolk Terriers, Fox Terriers and Dachshunds and other rat-catching breeds to seek and destroy vermin.
The vigilante group ventures out regularly in response to any citizens or even city officials call, and sicks their furry exterminators on the vermin until the problem is no more.
Reynolds says any breed of dog can join the hunt, however some canines are better equipped to cull rats than others. Terriers have an innate sense to do this, its in their genes, Reynolds says.
Others require more practice. In one of the more hilarious mishaps, one hapless rat catcher caught a bagel and not a rat during his first outing, reports Cheddar.
And the pest-purging pups work best in a pack with one of the usually smaller, pointer pooches flushing out the rats while the other dogs surround the critter and kill it.
Setting the hounds on other animals might sound barbaric, but its more effective than poison or glue traps, reports Cheddar. Indeed, rat terriers, which were a fixture on farms in the early 1900s, can reportedly cull 100 varmints in one day, reports Modern Farmer.
Were offering a very quick, not painless to be sure, but at least quick and merciful death, says Reynolds of the unorthodox pest control measure.

Still, while hunting rats is not illegal in NYC, getting permission is difficult, which means the group must operate covertly. Reynolds equates their modus operandi to Mission Impossible where the guy would go into the phone booth and the phone would ring and it says this tape will self-destruct in five minutes and we dont even know you.
Thats kind of the way we work with the city.
Suffice to say, the ruff-riding rat hunters have got their work cut out for them in the time of the coronavirus.
With the redistribution of the food supply the rats are redistributing, Reynolds tells the Post, referencing the COVID-caused restaurant closures. So lets say we hunted a dumpster out behind a given restaurant, we dont hunt there anymore.
Even worse, in the absence of trash, many rodents are turning eating their own kind: These rats are fighting with one another; now the adults are killing the young in the nest and cannibalizing the pups, says Bobby Corrigan, a rodentologist who specializes in urban vermin.
Fortunately, R.A.T.S. is hoping to stem the plague in a way that benefits both man and dog. We help out the community secondary to it, says R.A.T.S. volunteer James Hoffman. First is for the dogs, second we help out people.

Covering COVID-19 is a daily Poynter briefing about journalism and coronavirus, written by senior faculty Al Tompkins. Sign up here to have it delivered to your inbox every weekday morning.
The COVID-19 pandemic is going to create desperate rats, which once had restaurant scraps and such to eat but now have to go scrounge elsewhere, like your house, The Washingtonian reported.
The Washingtonian spoke with rodent expert Bobby Corrigan, who put it this way:
Corrigan says the rats will first go into panic mode and start running around in the streets to look for food in their usual areas. So dont be surprised if your usually rat-free neighborhood is suddenly swamped with fuzzy creatures cavorting in broad daylight. Once the rodents realize their go-to buffets are closed, theyll begin to turn on each other and go Full Cannibal. And yeah, rats that are more inclined to flight than fight will forage for new food supplies, and potentially make their way into your garbage can or kitchen.
In New Orleans, where the French Quarter has gone quiet, people said the rats are much more visible than normal.
Speaking of rodents, mice are widely used in research labs and Science Magazine reported that labs are euthanizing thousands of them because of the coronavirus.
University laboratories say they have to kill lab mice because of the stay at home orders that leave nobody to attend to the care of the creatures. Science Magazine said there is no evidence that labs are killing larger animals, like dogs or monkeys, and that mice make up about 95% of all lab animals in the U.S.
Some of the mice are quite valuable to researchers because of their unique breeding that is designed to fit genome profiles that the scientists are studying. The Jackson Laboratory is the worlds biggest supplier of lab mice and has said it is deeply involved in coronavirus research.

New York City restaurant owners already struggling with limited business are now facing another issue: rats.
With indoor dining put on hold indefinitely due to COVID-19, outdoor dining is the only other option, aside from takeout and delivery, restaurant owners like Giacomo Romano have to keep their business afloat. But the owner of Ciccio, an Italian restaurant in SoHo, says the sanitation of a nearby park is contributing to a recurring problem of rats.
Father Fagan Park is small and inviting to skateboarders and people who want to relax outdoors, but it's also attracting huge rats. Romano says he has appealed to city leaders for help.

Local

"There are a lot of new holes in the ground cover by the plants," Romana wrote to NBC New York. "Last night, a customer had a baby rat running on his shoe and I let you just imagine his reaction."
One parkgoer said he had seen a number of rats go from one spot to another as he sat on the park bench.
Romano, who has been in business in Lower Manhattan for seven years, says he agrees with the city and Gov. Andrew Cuomo's decision to postpone indoor dining, but officials need to do something about the outdoors. He says there's only one trash can for the entire park and people continue to throw garbage in the park.
NBC New York previously reported on these rats in late 2018, but their timing couldn't be worse now for business owners. Pasquale Giacobbe just reopened his barbershop on the same street as Romano last week after nearly four months, and he's already fed up with the rodents.
"I already dont have the help from the state, no loans from nobody. At least they can come do something, for all the tax we pay," Giacobbe said.
NBC New York has reached out to the city for answers but for now, the rats may be part of some people's dining experience.

Trump gets second extension to file financial disclosure, because he's too focused on the pandemic

Michael_Novakhov shared this story from Salon.com.

President Donald Trump received a second extension to submit his annual financial disclosure after the White House claimed he was too busy focusing on the coronavirus pandemic to submit the paperwork.
Trump's financial disclosure was due more than a week ago after he was already granted a 45-day extension to submit the disclosure, which details his personal finances. However, the disclosure was not filed, and no explanation was given by the White House.
A White House official told The New York Times on Wednesday that Trump had been given "an additional 45 days" by the Office of Government Ethics to file the disclosure. The report is "complicated," and the president has "been focused on addressing the coronavirus crisis and other matters."
The Times noted that Vice President Mike Pence, who heads the White House coronavirus task force and has been more directly involved in the day-to-day response to the pandemic, was able to file his disclosure report by the deadline, as required. Pence's disclosure revealed that he raised nearly $500,000 for a legal-defense fund to pay his bills in former special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation.
The delay around Trump's disclosure report follows "conversations between ethics officials and representatives for Mr. Trump about a draft of the filing," according to The Times.

The delay also comes as Trump fights to keep his financial information and tax returns under wraps. The Supreme Court on Thursday ruled that Trump does not have immunity from subpoenas seeking his tax returns and financial records. It kicked the issue to lower courts to decide, meaning that the documents may remain private until after the election. Trump vowed to "keep fighting" the lawsuit, even though he previously claimed that he would voluntarily release his tax returns.
Last year, Trump's financial disclosure raised questions, because it did not include the free legal services provided by his personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani.
The disclosures are the only public documents that reveal the goings-on in Trump's business empire, from which he has refused to divest. The 2019 disclosure showed that revenues at Trump's businesses fell, including a nearly 10% drop at his beloved Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Fla.
It also showed that the Trump Organization had halted its international deals, resulting in a further financial slump. The disclosure also revealed that Trump owed at least $315 million in loans.
The White House claims over the latest delay raised additional questions. The claim that Trump's focus was on the pandemic is contradicted by his "Twitter feed," argued former federal prosecutor Elie Honig, where Trump has posted fake videos of "racist babies" and shared videos of his supporters shouting "white power."
"Trump's annual financial disclosure report was due in May but he was given a 45-day extension until June 29. It's now July 9 and he still hasn't released it," former Bill Clinton aide Keith Boykin tweeted. "Yet he has time to tweet, golf, hold campaign rallies and avoid coronavirus task force meetings."
Norm Eisen, who served as the White House ethics chief under President Barack Obama, alleged that the excuse was patently false.
"I oversaw Pres. Obama's financial filings in a time of two wars & the Great Recession. So I can tell you that the excuse Trump is giving is a lie. His lawyers and accountants prepare this form, not him," he wrote. "Why is he lying? The usual: something to hide."

China offers glimpse inside lab near Wuhan coronavirus origin

Michael_Novakhov shared this story .

Chinese state media has offered a rare glimpse of the lab at the heart of coronavirus conspiracy theories, as it seeks to push back against claims the facility was the source of the global pandemic.
President Donald Trump and other US figures have repeatedly suggested the virus could have leaked from the Wuhan Institute of Virology, or even been deliberately produced there.
Footage broadcast by state-run CCTV is believed to be the first from within the institutes P4 lab for highly-dangerous Class 4 pathogens since its inauguration in 2017.
However, it offered no new information on the labs workings.
It included only a few brief shots of actual laboratory areas, taken through thick glass windows. The report said safety protocols prevented closer access.
The piece focussed instead on rebutting leak suspicions.
There have been no accidents of pathogen leaks or human infections from the lab, said Yuan Zhiming, director of the Wuhan National Biosafety Laboratory.
An outbreak and pandemic caused by any infectious disease is bound to be the focus of public attention.
Because of the fear and feeling of helplessness and also the lack of information, many people would naturally link an areas outbreak to its nearest lab. As they learn more about the situation and the lab, rumours will gradually dissipate.
Scientists think COVID-19 which first emerged in Wuhan and has gone on to kill more than half a million people worldwide originated in bats and could have been transmitted to people via another mammal.
Chinese officials said early in the outbreak that the virus may have spread from a market in the city, which sold live and wild animals, but no further confirmation of that has been revealed.
Conspiracy rumours that the biosafety lab was involved in the outbreak swirled online for months before Trump and his Secretary of State Mike Pompeo brought the theory into the mainstream.
The United States and Australia subsequently called for an investigation into the origins of the pandemic.
The World Health Organisation is sending an animal health expert and an epidemiologist to China this weekend to lay the groundwork for an investigation into the animal origins of the new coronavirus.
Yuan said that while some might view the lab as a secretive black box, he insisted it was very open and transparent and that the facility hopes to become a platform for international exchanges and to see more foreign scientists come to work in our lab.
Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon found dead

The mayor of South Koreas capital city, Seoul, who vanished amid sexual harassment allegations, has been found dead hours after his daughter reported that he had left a verbal message that sounded like a will, according to a report.
Police found Park Won-soon dead after they launched a massive search for him in the hills stretching across northern Seoul where his cellphone signal was last detected, the Yonhap news agency reported.
Park, who was long seen as a potential presidential candidate, reportedly faced allegations of sexual misconduct. His daughter said he had left his home after saying what sounded like last words, according to Reuters.
She didnt specify the contents of the message, according to an officer at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency who was responsible for the search party.
Government official Kim Ji-hyeong said Park did not come to work on Thursday for unspecified reasons and had canceled all of his meetings for the day.
The Seoul-based SBS TV network reported that one of the mayors secretaries had lodged a complaint with police a day earlier over alleged sexual harassment such as unwanted physical contact that began in 2017.
The report, which didnt cite any source, said the woman told investigators that an unspecified number of other female staffers at City Hall had suffered similar sexual harassment by Park. MBC TV carried a similar report.
Police and the mayors office said they couldnt confirm the reports.
Police spokesman Lee Byeong-seok said Park was last identified by a security camera at 10:53 a.m. at the entrance to the hills, more than six hours before his daughter reported him missing.
Park a longtime civic activist and human rights lawyer who had been the mayor since 2011 was seen as a potential presidential hopeful for the liberals during the 2022 presidential elections.
He had established himself as a fierce opponent of former conservative President Park Geun-hye and backed the millions of people who flooded city streets in late 2016 and 2017, calling for her ouster amid a corruption scandal.
Park Geun-hye, who was removed from office in 2017, is serving a long prison term on bribery and other charges.
