It seems to me, that Dr. Fauci and many others do not want to face and to understand this phenomenon as it is: a warfare, and prefer to view in as the natural epidemic and pandemic. This might explain the lack of the quick and successful interventions and the solutions.

Maps show COVID-19 hotspot surge south

Michael_Novakhov shared this story .

Americas coronavirus epidemic is less a single war than a series of local or regional battles that have shifted across the country.
A USA TODAY analysis shows early northern hot spots like New York City, Seattle and Chicago tempering their epidemics since April, while an intense set of outbreaks began to surge across Americas Sunbelt starting in May.
Although the recent rapid growth in the South and Southwest has been well documented, new mapping by the news network provides an unusually vivid portrait of the stark shift in the pandemics hottest spots.
Of course, big flareups have hit nearly all parts of the country throughout the crisis.
America hasnt been facing one coronavirus outbreak; its been facing hundreds, spread across time and communities.

Those patterns pop out on maps that visualize COVID-19 hot spots.

At the beginning of the pandemic, COVID-19 outbreaks were surging in the Northeast. That's changed in recent weeks.
While Americans were talking about outbreaks in Seattle and New Orleans in late March, intense outbreaks were bursting through communities in Colorado and southwest Georgia.
By the end of April, intense outbreaks were sweeping communities in Mississippi, Georgia, Iowa and eastern North Carolina. Communities in a swath from Amarillo, Texas, to St. Cloud, Minn., unconnected by a major highway, were hit hard.
But some of the biggest numbers of people affected by the coronavirus were in major northern populations centers. Thats changed in roughly the past six weeks.
Early in the pandemic, President Donald J. Trump repeatedly suggested the coronavirus would not fare well with heat and would go away with summer temperatures. Instead, the virus is blasting through some of Americas hottest locations.
The coronavirus began rampaging through Sunbelt states soon after they opened in late May and early June. In about a month, Floridas case positivity rate quadrupled, daily new cases increased from about 1,000 to about 8,000, hospitalizations more than doubled and deaths began trending upward, data from Johns Hopkins University and the Covid Tracking Project show.
In Arizona, busy bars may have helped fuel an intense spread of coronavirus. The daily counts of new cases in Arizona, with about 7.3 million people, now rival those of the European Union, with about 450 million people.
And the Arizona numbers are likely undercounts. About 26% of the states test results come back positive, a strong indication that testing is not widespread. The World Health Organization recommends a level of testing where positives make up only 5% of the results.
Some of the biggest new health threats are in Americas most populous states. Texas went from 1,700 newly reported cases per day to 7,500 in four weeks. California leaped from 2,900 to 7,700 new daily case reports.
Texas is now closing bars and stopping other reopenings as its hospital beds fill.
In California, patients from overwhelmed hospitals in southern California are now sending patients to be treated near San Francisco.

Watch coronavirus hot spots shift south

The Northeast, and particularly New York City, was hit hard by COVID-19 at the start of the pandemic. By mid-June, the number of new coronavirus cases per capita had begun to surge in southern states.
Matthew Fox, a professor of epidemiology and global health at Boston University School of Public Health, said its too early to tell how some of the Southern states may fare. Many of the new cases are among younger people less likely to have serious effects from COVID-19. But some of them will pass that on to more vulnerable people. If the Southern states can protect those in the most danger, especially those 80 or older, they can limit the death toll.
"If the Sunbelt states can manage to really protect the nursing homes the impact really won't be as bad even as the case counts go up, said Fox.
Fox said the Northeast got a better handle on the coronavirus with fairly strong lockdowns, people getting concerned enough to become cautious, contact tracing and other efforts.
Any infection that you can prevent is going to prevent further infections, he said.

Share of daily new cases reported by each US region

The share of cases reported by northern states has declined as the share of cases in the South and West has increased.
Sunbelt states already trying to deal with fast-growing coronavirus counts are also among those scheduled to open schools soon.
"If effective plans are not in place then transmission is going to start to reoccur, Fox said.
And while serious effects are relatively rare among children, they can bring coronavirus infections home from school.
"Everything that we do now is really about keeping everything open as we move into the fall and minimizing the impact. Everything is going to change when schools start to reopen, and so we want to be in the best possible position to sustain those reopenings."

New testing method for passengers

Australian researches detect SARS-CoV-2 virus in wastewater from planes and cruise ships

Michael_Novakhov shared this story from The Medical News.

Previous reports have shown that the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), the virus that causes the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), has been found in untreated wastewater. While the data is limited, there are no reported cases of a person becoming infected with the virus due to exposure to contaminated water.
Now, a team of researchers from Australia's national science agency, the CSIRO, and the University of Queensland have found genetic fragments of SARS-CoV-2 after testing aircraft and cruise ship wastewater once they reached their destinations.
Published in the Journal of Travel Medicinethe study highlights the importance of using wastewater as a means to determine if infected passengers are coming into a country via ship or airplane.
Image Credit: Maridav / ShutterstockImage Credit: Maridav / Shutterstock

New testing method for passengers

The researchers said testing the wastewater could be an additional data source for testing and managing passengers after disembarkation. The viral fragments are not infectious but may determine that there are infected people on board the ship or plane, which can narrow down the testing of passengers.
Many people infected with the coronavirus are asymptomatic, which means that they are unaware that they harbor the virus. Testing can help determine those who may be exposed and infected with the potentially deadly virus.
"The study indicates that surveillance of wastewater from large transport vessels with their sanitation systems has potential as a complementary data source to prioritize clinical testing and contact tracing among disembarking passengers," the researchers concluded.
"Importantly, sampling methods and molecular assays must be further optimized to maximize sensitivity. The potential for false negatives by both wastewater testing and clinical swab testing suggests that the two strategies could be employed together to maximize the probability of detecting SARS-CoV-2 infections amongst passengers," they added.

Valuable tool

Testing wastewater can be a valuable tool to determine if any of the passengers harbor the novel coronavirus, which may create another cluster of infections. The new test can determine if any of the incoming passengers are infected with the virus, who may transmit it to others.
"Our science and research communities are among our greatest assets in our efforts to not only overcome this pandemic but also to assist in the economic recovery from COVID-19," Karen Andrews, Minister for Industry, Science and Technology, said.
"The ability to test wastewater from planes and cruise ships is another piece of the puzzle as we look to the future of travel and keeping Australians safe," she added.

The study

To arrive at their findings, the research team collected and tested airline and cruise ship wastewater samples for SARS-CoV-2 RNA using two virus concentration methods the adsorption-extraction by electronegative membrane and ultrafiltration by Amicon. They also utilized give assays using reverse-transcriptase quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) and RT-droplet digital PCR.
The team has found SARS-CoV-2 RNA in samples from both aircraft and cruise ship wastewater.

Finding COVID-19 hotspots

Finding hotspots for COVID-19 can help protect the country's residents since many areas across the globe are now opening their borders. Amid the coronavirus pandemic, many countries have started lifting lockdown measures to save the economy and help people go back to work. With this, air and sea travel will also commence.
Health experts say that it is vital to determine COVID-19 hotspots, which pertain to areas or situations where the virus may rapidly spread. These include transport vehicles, including cruise ships and aircraft.
"Responding to a pandemic is not just about the race for a vaccine, Australian science is supporting our economic recovery by delivering for partners like Qantas. Our relationship with air travel goes back to the 60s, and today our unique coatings already protect aircraft. Hence, it's great to be trusted to keep Australia flying while helping to stay ahead of any potential new outbreaks," Larry Marshall, CSIRO Chief Executive, said in a statement.
He added that determining the hotspots for virus spread will help keep all Australians safe as people start to travel again.

Voice of America - English: Trump Questions Bidens Mental Sharpness

Michael_Novakhov shared this story from 1. Russia from Michael_Novakhov (115 sites).

U.S. President Donald Trump is questioning the mental sharpness of his November election opponent, former vice president Joe Biden, contending he is not competent to be president.

Trump, in a barrage of attacks aired in an interview on the Fox News Sunday TV show, said, Biden can't put two sentences together.
They wheel him out. He goes up  he repeats  they ask him questions. He reads a teleprompter and then he goes back into his basement, Trump contended. You tell me the American people want to have that in an age where we're in trouble with other nations that are looking to do numbers on us?

Democratic presidential candidate former Vice President Joe Biden speaks at Alexis Dupont High School in Wilmington, Del., on
Democratic presidential candidate former Vice President Joe Biden speaks at Alexis Dupont High School in Wilmington, Del., on June 30, 2020.
The Trump campaign has aired ads that question whether the mental acuity of the 77-year-old Biden, who would be the oldest U.S. president ever if he wins the Nov. 3 election and is inaugurated next January, has diminished as he ages. At 74, Trump is now the oldest.
Fox newsman Chris Wallace, in the interview conducted Friday at the White House, asked the U.S. leader whether he thought Biden was senile.
I don't want to say that. I'd say he's not competent to be president, Trump responded. To be president, you have to be sharp and tough and so many other things. ... Joe doesn't know he's alive, OK? He doesn't know he's alive.
The Republican president claimed that if his Democratic opponent submitted to the same contentious questioning from Wallace as he was, Biden would end up sitting on the ground saying, Mommy, mommy, please take me home.
Trump declared that he would defeat Biden, even as Wallace unveiled a new Fox national poll showing Biden ahead of Trump by a 49-to-41% margin, a finding similar to that of other recent university and news organization polls. A compilation of polls by the Real Clear Politics website shows Biden ahead by an average of 8.6 percentage points.
One poll of registered voters showed that, contrary to Trumps contention, many think it is Trump who lacks key characteristics to be president, with fewer than half thinking he exhibits the mental soundness (43%), intelligence (42%), and judgment (40%) to serve effectively.
Biden tops Trump on each measure, with 47% expressing confidence in his mental soundness, 51% believing he is intelligent and 52% agreeing that he has the right degree of judgment.
But Trump dismissed the polling as fake and said he will win the election because the country, in the end, theyre not going to have a man who  whos shot. Hes shot, hes mentally shot.
Trump declined to say whether he would accept the results if he loses the election.
"You dont know until you see. It depends, he said. He claimed, as he has in recent weeks, that mail-in voting, which Democrats and some Republicans have supported as a response to the coronavirus pandemic, is going to rig the election.
Im not a good loser. I dont like to lose, he said. I dont lose too often. I dont like to lose.
Only two U.S. presidents in the last four decades  Jimmy Carter in 1980 and George H.W. Bush in 1992  have lost re-election bids after a single term in the White House.

Corpus Christi

City in Texas

Description

Description

Corpus Christi is a Texas city on the Gulf of Mexico. Its tucked into a bay and its beaches are sheltered by Padre and Mustang islands. The Padre Island National Seashore is home to migratory birds and endangered Kemps ridley sea turtles. The harborfront Texas State Aquarium has touch pools, an aquatic nursery and a shark exhibit. Nearby, a WWII aircraft carrier, USS Lexington, now houses a naval aviation museum.
85 Infants Test Positive For Covid-19 Coronavirus In Texas County

Michael_Novakhov shared this story from Bruce Lee.

A few years back, my family moved from Los Angeles to Long Island, a significant move not only for the 2,800 miles, the cultural differences, and the changes in season and climate, but also for the topography. Leaving LA meant a significant drop off in my favorite outdoor activities, namely hiking and mountaineering. But the silver lining? Our new home is less than a half mile from a bay on the Long Island Sound, so now I spend more days paddling on the water in a kayak than scrambling toward a summit.
Kayaking is a great hobby because it can suit people of almost all ages, athletic abilities, and interests. You can chase the adrenaline rush of paddling on whitewater rivers and dropping down waterfalls, or you can let your vessel glide lazily along as you hang a fishing line in the water. You can paddle for miles across open water or zip around quickly with a pedal-driven kayak. Some of the best kayaks are perfect for multi-day downriver or coastal exploration adventures, while others are perfect for an afternoon of fun that ends with the kayak deflated or folded up and packed away into the trunk of a car.
In short, whether you want adventure, exercise, leisure, or to catch some fish, theres a kayak out there for you. But you cant do all those activities and more in one boat; you need to choose the best kayak for your preferred pastime. Considering I own two kayaks and two canoes myself, and use each differently, I should know.
But I figured it would probably be a good idea to check with some experts who know even better, so I called up Tennessee-based Red Bull athlete Dane Jackson, a celebrated kayaker whose dad was an Olympic paddler, and whose family runs Jackson Adventures and, who, among other things, recently completed the second-highest kayak descent of a waterfall...ever. (It was a 134-foot drop down Chiles Salto del Maule falls, FYI.)
Here are some of the best kayaks for all sorts of paddlers and activities, based on personal experience, advice from Jackson, and carefully combed online reviews.

Best Recreational Kayak

Old Town Manitou Sport Kayak

I've owned a sit-in Old Town kayak for years and have paddled countless miles around bays off the Long Island Sound as well as in upstate lakes and ponds. If hard-pressed to pick one boat out of my four I was going to keep, it would be my Old Town.
While not suited to whitewater and not entirely practical for fishing, this kayak is about as close to a one-size-fits all as you can get. The 26.5-inch hull is broad enough for easy stability while its nearly 11-foot length balances steady tracking with nimbleness in turns. You can easily maneuver the boat around docks and rocks with ease but also get up a decent bit of speed on open water.
Its dry storage area lets you pack enough gear for an all-day outing (overnight would be a squeeze, though), and when you go with a bright color, youll be highly visible and enjoy added safety around other vessels.

Best Sit-On-Top Kayak for New Paddlers

Lifetime Daylite 8 ft Sit-on-top Kayak

Lifetime Daylite 8 ft Sit-on-top Kayak (Paddle Included)

For recreational ocean paddling, sit-on-top kayaks are designed for both fitness and adventure. With Ocean Kayaks popular Malibu series currently sold out nearly everywhere, this option, which is cheaper to boot, is a great alternate choice. Owners of this best-seller rave about how easy the kayak is to maneuver, and use words like stable, durable, and easy to use to describe it in online reviews.
Another accurate description? Affordable. At $315, this kayak is well worth its price and should last for many years even with heavy use thanks to the rugged UV-protected high-density polyethylene construction hull. It has tank well storage with bungee tie-downs that can accommodate a little cooler, a dry bag, or a life jacket, and an adjustable seat plus multiple foot rest positions to accommodate different sized paddlers. (Though larger adults may want to consider the brands 10-foot Tahoma model for $241.)

Best Kayak for Ocean Touring

Delta Kayaks Delta 16 Kayak

If youre going to be heading out on an Arctic paddling expedition, this boat is a fine one to consider. It will also serve for decidedly less frigid paddling, such as a multi-day trip down the Florida coast. Super long at 16 feet, the hull will slice through chop with ease and keep you heading on a steady line.
In windy conditions, you can lower the included rudder for added control of what one reviewer calls this wonderfully versatile, high performance kayak that is perfect for paddling everywhere from the lake or the inter-coastal. The hull has plenty of dry storage and the cockpit can be fitted with a spray skirt to keep you dry and even let you roll and stay dry. (Well, from the waist down.)

Best Kayak for Whitewater

Dagger Mamba Creeker Kayak

According to Jackson, if youll only be getting one kayak for whitewater, look for one that offers a combination. You want something that is both good for running down rivers with confidence if you have some experience, while at the same time having a freestyle aspect to it that allows you to do tricks and fun moves down even the simplest of whitewater.
While suitable for conditions Jackson explains as steeper and harder whitewater, which is called Creeking, this kayak is also fun to simply paddle down a river with scarcely more than a Class 1 rapid to rattle your hull. The seat and hip pads are easily adjusted and the hull is sized to accommodate larger adults.

Best Two-Person Kayak

Ocean Kayak Malibu 2XL Tandem Kayak

A reliable two-person kayak like this one is ideal whether youre out to have a fun time with a friend, or taking someone out for their first time on the water, says Jackson. With dozens of reviews posted on Austin Kayaks site, the Malibu 2XL Tandem enjoys a nearly universal five-star rating and is priced quite fairly for large, stable boat with a total weight capacity of 475 pounds. (For a smaller and cheaper option, check out the brands Ahi Malibu model for $699.)
Ideal for calm, open water, this kayak comes with supportive seating, cargo bays with tie-downs, and it can easily be used by a solo paddler as needed. (And as noted above I own a kayak from the brand and have enjoyed it for years of use without issue.)

Best Pedal Kayak

Perception Pescador Pilot 12 Pedal Kayak

A word of warning: pedaling a kayak is not as easy as you might expect. In fact, its a pretty serious quad workout, and it takes a while to get used to the level of effort. The good news? Pedal kayaks like this top-rated vessel from Perception can zip you along at speeds fast enough to create a little wake and a lot of excitement.
Also, you can always use a paddle when your legs get tired or paddle and pedal at the same time for top speed. This boat has plenty of storage and plenty of special features, like recesses to keep fishing rods perched upright for storage or for trolling, a raised seat that keeps you drier and cooler thanks to airflow, and a hand-operated rudder.

Best Clear Kayak

Crystal Kayak Explorer Kayak

If you want your adventure on the water to also come with a clear look at whats under the water, then a unique see-through kayak from Crystal Kayak is the way to go. These broad-hulled kayaks are stable and steady and perfect for use on lakes, ponds, calm ocean waters, and lazy rivers.
Though not the fastest boat around, youll be happy to float at take in the view around and below you. And while designed for one paddler, the Explorer is large enough for a passenger to hop aboard and it has a 425-pound weight capacity. The polycarbonate resin hull (the branded name of the material is Lexan) should stand up to bumps against rocks, logs, and so on with ease, but youll probably avoid those anyway, as youll be able to see them right through the boat.

Best Inflatable Kayak

Intex Challenger Kayak

If youre a bit wary of hopping into an inflatable kayak and heading out to sea, you really don't have to be. This kayak has been a best-seller for years so much so that at the time of this writing, its in fact sold out at major retailers including Walmart.
I tracked it down because its an affordable, convenient kayak that can be deflated and tucked in a closet when not in use, but can support a paddler weighing up to 220 pounds and is well-suited to any calm water environment. The hull consists of two different air compartments, so even in the unlikely event that one gets punctured, youll still stay afloat and can paddle back to shore, albeit awkwardly.

Fauci holds up New York as model for fighting coronavirus They did it correctly

Michael_Novakhov shared this story .

National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Anthony Fauci attends the daily coronavirus briefing in the Brady Press Briefing Room at the White House on April 09, 2020 in Washington, DC. U.S. unemployment claims have approached 17 million over the past three weeks amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

White House health advisor Anthony Fauci has praised New York for its handling of the coronavirus pandemic, saying the state responded correctly to bring its outbreak under control.
We know that, when you do it properly, you bring down those cases. We have done it. We have done it in New York, Fauci said in an interview with PBS NewsHour that aired Friday evening.
New York got hit worse than any place in the world. And they did it correctly by doing the things that youre talking about, he continued.
New York was once the epicenter of the outbreak in the United States with more than 10,000 new cases a day during its peak outbreak in April. The state has dramatically reduced daily new infections to 776 as of Thursday.
New York is one of nine U.S. states that has the virus under control, according to the tracking project Covid Act Now. Less than 1% of New Yorkers tested for the virus were positive Thursday, down from a high of more than 40%.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo instituted some of the strictest reopening requirements in the country, insisting that stay-at-home orders remain in place and many businesses remain closed far longer than states that are now seeing surges such as Texas and Florida.
More than 400,000 New Yorkers have been infected by the virus since the pandemic began and at least 32,463 people have died in the state.
New York City is scheduled to enter phase 4 on Monday, the next stage of reopening that allows outdoor activities like zoos, outdoor films and gardens. Indoor restaurants, bars, museums, and malls will remain closed, Cuomo said Friday.
Im so proud of what New Yorkers have done. But we must continue to be on alert, Cuomo tweeted.
Cuomo has warned of a potential second wave of the coronavirus, as dozens of states around the country grapple with a spike in the number of confirmed coronavirus infections after reopening rapidly in the spring. Last Sunday, Florida reported more than 15,000 new infections, more than New York during the peak of its outbreak.
In his comments Friday, Fauci addressed the surges around the country, urging people to wear masks and pushing for the closure of bars to limit the spread of the virus.
Stay away from crowds. Close the bars, Fauci said. You appeal to the people in the local areas, close those bars. They are seriously the one of the major reasons why were seeing [the surges].
And I think, if we do that for a couple of weeks in a row, he continued, I think were going to see a turnaround, because we know that that works.
The coronavirus outbreak has spread worldwide, with more than 14 million confirmed cases and over 597,000 deaths, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. The U.S. has had more than 3.6 million cases and  at least 139,302 deaths, according to the latest tallies, more than any other country.
